After missing out on a Christmas Day windsurf yesterday, (we went on a wonderful 3 hour, 18 mile bike ride instead:) today I had a small window of opportunity before we had to visit family in Ipswich. It meant an early start and as I didn't fancy being out by myself at Felixstowe I went over Levington. I arrived at the marina at 8 after having seen over 25 deer on the way in !!! :) The tide was still fairly low and the onshore wind was gusting to 28 kts so sail choice was a bit of a problem but took a chance with 6.5 on the 133 it was ok in the gusts but way under in the lulls, the 7m might have been better but it was particularly up and down even for here ! Just after rigging I was treated to the most wonderful sunrise - check the link for pics - and I only had to walk through a little mud to get to the water:) The strongest wind was in the bay and I tried going broad heading towards the docks but got my best speeds going the other way towards the marina in water that was very bumpy :( I had a few runs up to Levington creek but the wind went really light and gusty up there :( I beat to the far side of the River Orwell and found some flat water but no wind ! I had the whole river to myself apart a few thousand waders :) and it was fantastic to be out in the warm December sunshine. With the tide now making it harder to stay up wind and time running out it was time to head ashore at 10:15 and I was packing up as Mag arrived covered in mud after biking acrossthe fields from Felixstowe to meet me :) By this time there was a steady stream of yachts heading out to make the most of the high tide and good breeze - I think there was some racing too :) We were only a little late arriving in Ipswich to visit my Dad and Shirley for mince pies and a chat and were pleased to find out that my sister Sharon, her daughter Jess and Auntie Diane were also there and a great time was had by all :) After that we headed to Sharons to pick up a few logs for our fire and ended up staying for lunch - so a top day all round :)
